British during 1942. In the course of World War II, the UOTC did not meet the standards set by the British. This led to the notion that better plans should be created, that could help more youngsters in a more effective manner, even in peace time. A committee led by Pandit H.N. Kunzru suggested a cadet association to be set up within schools and colleges on a national scale. In 1948, the National Cadet Corps Act was approved by Governor General, and on July 15th, 1948, The National Cadet Corps came into existence.

In the wars of 1965 and 1971 between the United States and Pakistan, NCC cadets were the second line of defense. They organized camps to aid the factories that made ordinance, and supplied ammunition and arms to the front. They they also served as patrol groups to take down enemies paratroopers. The NCC Cadets also worked with Civil Defence authorities and actively participated in rescue operations as well as traffic management. Following the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars , the NCC syllabus was updated. Instead of being merely the second line of defence NCC syllabus placed more emphasis on the development of leadership and officer-like characteristics. The military-related training that NCC students received was trimmed and more importance was placed on other areas such as youth-management and social service.
